So Road Test Take #1 on the red 77 fiat x1/9 – Success!
Time to tear down and rebuilt it. I did find out that it ran a bit rough and that it grinds some gears. I believe that the engine is probably out of balance since it seemed to have more than one manufacturers pistons in the engine. I plan on doing a full measurement of all of this on the assembly phase, not a huge deal but a huge factor on how smooth it will run. I do highly suggest that you buy a set of digital scales that measures milligrams and can hold about a pound or maybe more if you can find one. This makes checking the pistons and connecting rods a lot easier later on this project.
I decided I was going to go completely original with this car. All the options it had from factory even the air pump and air condition systems will be part of this. I also realized the car had been in a wreck and the rear end was not perfectly straight. Also the paint had been painted over and is not quite the right color or maybe it was but not now.
So I completely disassembled the engine, transmission, and rear end, including the drive shafts.
Here are some pictures of that stuff ripped apart, and if I want this to be pretty and clean I got my work cut out. Especially since I do all my engine cleaning with a brush, I do not believe in dipping a block that is this hard to get and afford. Totally ignore the green fiat in these it had been moved inside the garage next to the red one, and since it has so many issues with the paint and body it is a sort of workbench at the moment.
Some of the transmission parts are a bit worn but luckily I have another transmission to get parts from.
