I bought two 1977 Fiat X1/9 cars.
One was green and one was red. The green one had a motor with a bad transmission and the red one had a broken block with a good transmission but was totally in boxes. It took me a while to track down how this car really goes together and figure out what I needed to fix the car enough to see if it would go down the road before I really decided to restore it back to its’ former glory. The red one had a much nicer body on it and had very little rust for its’ age.
Well I spent a good amount of time to get it running with what I had currently just to check for problems and stuff. I got the car running and drove it around for a few weeks. I realized that the body was solid and that it was a good car to start a project on. So Many months later I decided to start documenting this project since it has been so hard to find out how this car was suppose to go together. I had a manual from Haynes and guys at Midwest-Bayless that helped me out. I also spent a lot of time on the internet trying to find pictures of other cars like it that had some of the options that I had, that way I could figure out how to put mine back together 100%.
The red x19 originally had a A/C compressor on it, with a air pump that still works! wow! So I wanted to hook these items back up so the engine bay was completely original. This is proving to be a very hard task.
